Keeping abreast

For a woman, breasts are the most cherished part of her femininity, sexuality and self esteem. It is better to take good care of the breasts and to know the common problems that occur.

Breast pain, mastalgia, is the common problem for all women, but this is normal and every one of us is affected by it at one stage or another. Our breasts become tender and painful before our periods and a warm shower or a hot compress helps to reduce the pain. To reduce fluid retention breast pain during periods it is recommended to increase our liquid intake and cut down on caffeine.

There is no need to panic when we detect a small lump in our breast, it can be fibroadenomas. These fibroadenomas are commonly found in women under 30, they are just mass of benign fat and fibrous tissues. They are harmless but can be removed if we opt for a surgery.

When there is a watery or blood stained discharge from the nipple it is better to see the doctor immediately. Nipple inversion should also be checked immediately, though they might be harmless sometimes they are the symptoms for breast cancer.

Cysts are caused by fluid trapped in breast tissue. These are commonly found in women whose breasts are very sensitive. The cyst should be examined by your doctor.
